Overview

The 6th-Cherry-Trade Parking Deck is a city-owned parking deck that sits at the entrance to the downtown arts district, a walkable district that is known for its art galleries, shops, restaurants, and bars. The parking deck also serves the Benton Convention Center, where the City of Winston-Salem hosts conventions and special events for a variety of organizations and companies in the Southeast.

Community members and stakeholders are seeking a mural design that will serve as a landmark gateway to the arts district, exemplifying Winston-Salem’s commitment to the arts. The call remains open to artists nationwide with the hope that an artist that is new to the Public Art Commission can bring a unique aesthetic and voice to the downtown area.

The committee is seeking an artist with a vibrant portfolio that showcases images of nature, abstract designs, and/or non-figurative work.

Budget

The budget will range from $75,000 to $100,000 depending on the scope of the project. The budget is intended to pay for artist-design fees, insurance, materials, site prep, transportation, and installation. Up to three finalists will be paid $1,000 to design and present a proposal.
